Seattle has already had multiple days of snow and Winter Solstice is still 12 days away, but the Washington Huskies are as hot, maybe hotter than ever, on the high school and transfer portal recruiting scenes.
It’s all happening on the heels of a 10-2 season. Recruits have noticed and if they haven’t, the Washington coaching staff is making sure that they are aware.
And it’s paying dividends—much of which is occurring behind closed doors—for now,
As much as the Huskies were able to close out opponents down the stretch to finish the season with a 6-game winning streak, they’re wrapping up the 2023 recruiting class with a similar flurry.
Wednesday December 19 players can begin signing their national letters of intent. Currently, the Huskies have the 26th best recruiting class but are poised to move up 10 or so spots.
Penix’s feats on the gridiron have been highlighted by many, having him finishing 8th in the Heisman ballot, but there are also positive signs in the other side of the ball.
Edge defender, Bralen Trice with his Power 5 high 67 QB pressures has flourished in the new, more aggressive defense. He also had the highest-rated pass rush grade, according to Pro Football Focus.
Jeremiah Martin and Sav’ell Smalls ended the season as top 40 edge defenders, as the Huskies led the Pac-12 Conference in sacks and second overall in yards per game.
Said one analyst, “Colorado is hot with the hiring of Deion Sanders to lead Colorado, but the Huskies are hotter.”
He went on to say that DeBoer is proven on this level, at this point.
In the coming days how hot Washington is will be known. The way recruiting works a true payoff still be a year off, but prospects who once looking another way are now looking Washington’s way.
