The Washington Huskies stand on the brink of bowl eligibility after the 31-17 loss in Bloomington. The undefeated Hoosiers have still yet to trail in a game this year when D’Angelo Pounds picked off Will Rogers’ lateral pass and took it to the house for a pick-6 to break the 0-0 tie.
The Huskies were able to move the ball throughout the contest but struggled to be efficient when they crossed the 50.
There are many issues that have led to the disappointing outcomes on possible scoring drives. The kicking game has become a question mark, the offensive line has struggled to get a push, and Rogers has not been crisp when the windows get smaller.
The USC game stands as the fork in the season for the Husky program. If they win they will most likely finish the season no worse than 6-6, but a loss would make it tough for even the most optimistic fan to foresee a bowl game.
After USC Washington has a road game against #3 Penn State, a home game against UCLA, then #1 Oregon at Autzen.
Washington will be favored at home against the Bruins, but will be heavy underdogs on the road. Washington has not executed outside the friendly confines of Husky Stadium as this program rebuilds from the mass exodus when Kalen DeBoer left.
While anything can happen during a college football game the SC game feels like a must-win for the precious bowl game practices for Jedd Fisch and the rebuilding Dawgs.
The question remains, can they exercise the demons that have haunted them over the last few weeks?
