Washington Huskies Offensive Grades: Williams Shines Rutgers Revenge Win

Washington Huskies Offensive Grades: Williams Shines Rutgers Revenge Win

The Washington Huskies avenged their 2024 road loss by beating Rutgers 38–19 on Friday night at Husky Stadium. For the second week in a row, the Huskies got off to a rocky start—but this time, they began turning the corner in the second quarter instead of waiting until after halftime.

They went into the locker room down just three points, then took control after the first possession of the third quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run by Jonah Coleman. From that point on, the Huskies never looked back, ultimately doubling Rutgers’ score.

Quarterback: Demond Williams Jr. was simply incredible. The sophomore quarterback broke the record for all-purpose yards by a Husky signal-caller, racking up 538 yards of total offense. He scored two touchdowns through the air and added two more with his legs. Williams was on point the entire game, showing poise outside the pocket and effortlessly dissecting the weak defense fielded by Greg Schiano. His performance secured him another Conference Offensive Player of the Week award.
Grade: A+

Running Back: Jonah Coleman continues to find the end zone, scoring his 12th touchdown of the season—good for best in the nation. He struggled to find daylight running between the tackles but managed a few explosive plays when he bounced runs outside, particularly behind Drew Azzopardi.

Adam Mohammed only had two carries, largely due to the success the Huskies found running the ball with Williams.
Grade: B

Receivers: Washington showed great diversity in the passing game, spreading the ball among receivers, running backs, and tight ends. Freshman Chris Lawson made an impact on both pop passes while Denzel Boston and Dezmen Roebuck found success in longer-developing routes.

Boston displayed incredible hands on his first touchdown catch, securing the ball through a defender’s arms. Dezmen Roebuck was especially effective in space, piling up yards after the catch.
Grade: A

Offensive Line: The offensive line struggled, especially on the interior. The Hatchett brothers had a tough outing, and Coleman found little room to run on the right side. Though Williams managed to escape collapsing pockets, the protection breakdowns were obvious.

Maximus McCree remains a noticeable downgrade from starting tackle Carver Willis, whose absence since the Ohio State game continues to hurt the unit.
Grade: D

Looking Ahead: The schedule gets much tougher this week as the Huskies travel to Ann Arbor to face Michigan. The Wolverines boast a significantly better defense than Rutgers—who will likely finish near the bottom of all statistical categories this season.

For Washington to have a chance, the offensive line must step up and provide better protection for Williams and the rest of the offense.
