Happy Saturday! The Huskies have found themselves a quarterback for the class of 2022, securing a commitment from three-star quarterback Jackson Stratton out of La Jolla High School in California. The commitment came at a bit of a shock to Husky fans, as it appears he was given an offer and committed on the spot.
Touting a 4.3 GPA, Stratton holds multiple Ivy League offers, and from his junior film, it’s very clear why John Donovan is a fan of his. He moves very well in and out of the pocket, and he shows that he can fit the ball into a tight window when needed. He’ll need to put on some weight, but if he can retain his athleticism at around 220 pounds, he could be utilized on some read options.
His deep ball is clean, and he knows how to throw with touch. Stratton can make plays with his legs, and it’s clear that he’s a guy who will need a year or two to learn and develop in a college offense before he gets a shot on the field. His arm action is a little funky at times, but the way he goes through his delivery might remind some avid football fans of Philip Rivers.
With Sam Huard and Dylan Morris set to be battling it out for the starting slot for the foreseeable future, Stratton will have his time to develop. And with his intelligence, he’s going to be a great addition to the room. This commitment will most definitely fly under the radar nationally, but this is a very important piece for the Huskies going forward. With only two scholarship quarterbacks scheduled to be on the 2022 roster before this announcement, making sure there are extra scholarship bodies at the position is very important.
While this might not be the news some Husky fans were expecting (just because of what commitments are looming on the horizon), Stratton is going to be an excellent addition to the quarterbacks room.
