Washington avoided losing three games in a row for the first time all season, beating Colorado Saturday, 72-62.
The Huskies were coming off consecutive losses to Stanford and Utah. With the win, Washington improved to 14-6 on the season and 4-3 in conference play.
The last two weeks have been a struggle on offense for the Huskies and things didn’t change early Saturday afternoon after the Huskies missed their first eight shots and trailed 7-0. UW’s cold shooting would continue through the first 12 minutes as they trailed 18-9 with 8:11 remaining in the first half. At that moment, the Huskies were just 4-20 shooting from the field.
After the timeout the Huskies would go on a run that might have just changed the whole season. The Huskies out of the timeout would answer Colorado with a 14-0 run to grab their first lead of the game. Washington would go on to outscore Colorado 27-9 to take a 36-27 lead heading into the half.
The Huskies were not at their best on offense, shooting 42.4% from the field. But unlike Thursday’s loss against Utah, UW made 8-19 three-point attempts against the Buffs’. Washington also out-rebounded Colorado 50-34. The closest Colorado would get in the second half was within six points.
Washington was once again led by Jaylen Nowell, who finished with 19 points.
Matisse Thybulle had one of his better games of the season, scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds.
David Crisp finished 4-7 shooting from the field, with 14 points.
