Washington 2023 Spring Game: DeBoer Lays Out Scrimmage Plan

Coming off of an 11-win season, the Washington Huskies football team will showcase

“It’s really hard to say what I’ll be looking for today,” said RealDawg.com’s Trevor Mueller.  “For the entertainment I want to see Penix bomb one out to Rome Odunze, but I also want to see how Dylan Morris has progressed.”

But there will be a very watchful eye on the Washington defense.

“Bralen Trice and Zion Tupuola-Fetui going up against Troy Fautanu and Roger Rosengarten will be a fantastic spectacle,” Mueller continued.  “However, having Edefuan Ulofoshio out there in the middle of that defense might be what I watch the most.”

For the Spring Game, the squads will be broken down by the two-deep roster, having the first unit go against the second unit.  There won’t be a time limit, per se, but a schedule of plays broken down as 70 plays between the 1’s and 2’s DeBoer said after practice on Friday.

The first and second units will alternate drives starting at their own 25 yard line in the first session and their own 45 in the second session.  DeBoer revealed there there’s going to be an additional intrigue to the field position battle after a score.

“Whoever is ahead on the scoreboard is going to get the raw end of the deal on the next spot,” he said with a slightly devious chuckle.  “I get to choose that spot.”

However, a win will only be for team bragging rights.

“They take pride in the wins,” he said about any scoreboard incentive.

There are a multitude of ways to score with the offense scoring as normal but the defensive has a multitude of scoring opportunities.

Offensive Scoring
6 points for a touchdown
1 point for a kicked point after
3 points for a field goal
2 points for a 2 point conversion

Defensive Scoring
7 points for a touchdown
4 points for forcing a 3 and out
2 points for a missed field goal
2 points for a defensive stop

There are other ways to score for the defense on 4th downs.

The Spring Game will start at 1 pm at Husky Stadium.  The forecast is temperature in the upper 50’s at the start and up to 60 by the end.  Parking is $15.  Other special promotions can be found on GoHuskies.com
