Carlsbad, CA. safety, Asa Turner had a super-busy week prior to taking his official visit to Washington over the weekend, but now he says he’s seen all he needed to see – and a decision could be imminent before the end of summer.
“It was great”, Turner said of the time he had in Seattle, “My family and I had a great time.”
Jordan Miller was Turner’s host on the trip, but he also spent a lot of time with fellow visitor, Cameron Williams. And aside from the football part of the equation, Turner also was able to spend time with the prof’s at the Foster School of Business, ” I know that’s what I want to major in but not sure which exact area of business I want to study yet”, Turner said.
Turner’s mother was impressed with the Built for Life presentation.
This was the second time Turner was on the UW campus; the last time being when he came up for the coach’s clinic, “I stayed mostly on the campus that time”, he explained, “This time I was able to get out and spend more time in the city too.”
Turner had visited Notre Dame last weekend, and then took an unofficial trip to USC prior to heading for Seattle. But in comparison, he said both UW and Notre Dame have extremely nice people as coaches, and that academics are extremely important. However, there may be one area where UW has others beat.
“I would say that, of all the coaches recruiting me, I have the best relationship with Coach Lake”, Turner said, “I had only met Coach Harris once and so I was able to spend the weekend getting closer to him — but Coach Lake has been there from the beginning, when I was first offered.”
As far as more visits, Turner said,”I think now I’ve seen all I needed to see — I had thought about visiting Michigan but there isn’t going to be time for that. Right now I just want to let these visits sink in.”
Turner is pretty sure he’s going to have his decision made before school starts, so that could (essentially) be just about any time right now.
The final question was whether or not he could see himself at Washington, Turner said “I could definitely see myself at Washington — it’s funny — coach Lake text me a little while ago and said he hopes I can see myself there.”
Turner, whose actual full name is Jacob Turner, could fill the bill with a commitment to Washington. He’s a 6-4, 210 pound safety who’s a big thumper. With the graduation of Jojo McIntosh coming up after this season and the possibility of Taylor Rapp going pro, the Huskies will have a huge need for a big body in the secondary.
Having played receiver, Turner brings those instincts to the safety position — and he’s a ferocious competitor. Jimmy Lake won’t ever shy away from playing a freshman at any one time because there’s a lot of DB’s on the field.
The Huskies have proven that they are the new “DBU” of the Pac-12, and on a national level their DB room is considered one of the best in the country. So you can bet that Turner is going to have a big decision to make.
Stay tuned…
