With Cade Otton off to the NFL and Devin Culp nearing the end of his college career, tight end is a huge focus in the 2023 recruiting class. Washington has sent out 10 offers to tight ends, and head coach Kalen DeBoer clearly wants to close on one, perhaps two of them.
Out of those 10, Jackson Bowers out of Mountain View (Ariz.), Collins Acheampong out of Fairview Prep (Calif.), and Spencer Shannon out of Mater Dei (Calif.) seem like the highest priority options as of this moment for the coaching staff. Shannon announced on Twitter that he is taking an official visit to Washington this weekend (5/20-5/22).

The 6-7, 240-pound Shannon would make a fantastic addition to the class with a host of abilities and a very high ceiling, if DeBoer and Co. can close on Shannon, Husky fans will almost certainly be hearing his name for years to come.
If DeBoer can close Shannon this weekend, similarly to four-star Rashid Williams, who committed on Thursday, there’s a chance that the staff will be done recruiting the position for the class of 2023. In that scenario though, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they took a pledge from Bowers or Acheampong if they wanted to commit as well to add another talented body to the room. Acheampong has an official visit scheduled for June 24th-26th.
