The class of 2020 is complete, and going into this February signing period, the Huskies were able to fit in a couple more — but it would have been just a little titch of icing on an already well-decorated cake.
Washington’s class finished #1 in the Pac-12 in December, and Oregon did overtake them in this second cycle due to the Ducks adding another 5-star recruit, but overall, the class finished #16 in the country — and that’s a huge accomplishment considering the fact that there was a coaching change and the Huskies didn’t really have a stellar season.
One guy they did really want to add was Tanoa Togiai of Rigby, Idaho. Togiai would have been a mission guy and so he wouldn’t have provided any immediate impact.
My take is that Washington may have just gotten in the door too late, but one ray of light in this is that they kept the scholarship.
The Huskies didn’t add another tight end, but that’s not the end of the world. They already signed 4-star tight end Mark Redman and also Mason West. They’re in on some real solid 2021 tight ends and I have a lot of faith in the recruiting prowess of Durham Cato.
Another ray of light is that the Huskies are set to land Poly Bowl MVP and Hawai’i safety walk-on, Meki Pei. I see this kid as being someone special who could be a strong contributor in the future and earn a scholarship.
That crazy internet…
There was some buzz this morning because someone hacked Jay’Veon Sunday’s twitter account and said he wasn’t going to Washington, of course this was all a sham. Sunday’s coach quickly responded by stating that this was a hack job and Sunday had nothing to do with it.
I heard it may have been a prank from someone at his school, but who knows.
MVP of the 2020 class:
So hard to call — but my pick would definitely be Sav’ell Smalls. There are so many good athletes in the class that it’s hard to pick…the DB’s, the tailbacks, the receivers…these guys are all talented and could contribute early. But as for one guy who can immediately come in and make his presence known you have to go with Smalls.
All in all, this is a very solid, talented, and nationally relevant class in 2020.
We already started our Big Boards with OL’s and receivers, and will begin rolling out the rest over the next month, as new offers have gone out and will continue to go out during the spring evals.
