WATCH: Thursday Zoom: Scott Huff Discusses O-line, and More

Husky offensive line coach, Scott Huff talked today via Zoom about his 2020 o-line, we will have that entire video up shortly, but here’s a few highlights of what the coach had to say.

** Huff addressed the question of how this is the heaviest line in the Pac-12 this year, and whether that takes away from how fast they are, “We have four guys over 330 and they can all move their feet for that size”, he said, noting that MJ Ale is at 355, Nate Kalepo is around 330 and so is Henry Bainivalu. “All are moving pretty good right now…they all got to be able to move, they can’t just be big.”

** Huff touched on the subject of the incoming freshmen as well, saying they are “getting better everyday”, he added that some are more physically advanced while other are more mentally advanced.

** The coach also talked about how they continue to move guys around between guard and center, “You build a baseball team up the middle, so the center position is very important…Luke (Wattenberg) is a natural…I like where Luke’s at.”

** Huff also talked in length about newcomer Myles Murao and what he saw on the recruiting trail from him, “Coach Lake and I had the chance to go down last year (to Mater Dei play)…it was their first game against St. John Bosco…the craziest atmosphere, standing room only…the moment was never too big for him”, he said of Murao, “He looked like a gladiator walking out there…he was ready to compete.”

** With Corey Luciano back at offensive line this season, that just adds to the depth chart right now, and Huff commended Luciano for “taking one for the team” last year when he moved to tight end for the season — also that Luciano is up to 300 lbs.

** Overall, Huff said that this unit has a “ton of potential”, but added that missing spring football may have been a detriment to younger players, “I feel like we’re making great progress”, he said reassuredly, “I love our depth, but we’re really young and we’ll see where we’re at in two and-a-half weeks…I think we’re going to make big strides between now and then.”

Luke Wattenberg and Sean McGrew then joined the meeting to field questions, and we’ll have all of that in the video.
