The Huskies continue to deep into the heart of Texas when it comes to finding some of the best talent in the country, and Texas prospect Landen King is just what the doctor ordered when it comes to their search for quality tight ends in 2021.
King, who’s 6-5, 210, was pretty excited about receiving a Husky offer just a couple of weeks ago, and was actually pretty jacked to see Husky tight ends coach, Durham Cato on the sidelines watching him during a basketball game.
“Man, that was big”, King said of seeing Cato there, “I’m warming up and I look over and see Coach Cato right there. So I called him and I was pretty excited. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Washington.”
While King hasn’t been up to Seattle yet, he’s already established a good beginning in his relationship with Cato, “He’s a real cool guy”, King said, “I liked that when he offered, he wanted to face time with my parents.”
King holds around 15 offers currently, but the Huskies’ knack for getting tight ends to the next level is something that’s very intriguing to a guy like King right now.
While King is hoping to get up to Seattle this spring, he’s thinking that March 20th might be the timeframe at this point.
King also plays hoops, as mentioned above, but he’s a very versatile athlete who didn’t start playing tight end until this past year at Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas.
“I went to camps as a wide receiver”, he explained, “But my coach needed a tight end.”
Because he’s played receiver, King is very astute in route running, but also excels at downfield blocking — a trait that’s important for a tight end.
“I think that’s one of my strong suits”, he said.
He has real good hands, good instincts, and is a coach-able, student of the game. King is a guy who will go across the middle and doesn’t care if there’s a linebacker there waiting to make contact; he’s ready and doesn’t shy away from contact.
Last season King posted 10 touchdowns on 58 catches and 815 total yards.
In talking with King, you can just tell he’s very enthusiastic about the Washington offer, so keep a close eye on this prospect going forward.
