Sunday Says “Everything” About Washington Drew Him In

Realdawg.com spoke with newly-committed Texas tailback, Jay’Veon Sunday after he had released his commitment this evening.

Sunday, who’s now the first tailback commit on Washington’s list, said he felt it was “just time”.

“I was ready to commit”, he said, “I talked to my coach and then talked to KB and told him I was ready. He was real excited, and then I called Coach Pete.”

Sunday said the Husky head coach was very excited to get his pledge as well, “I loved it when I was up there on my unofficial”, Sunday continued, “I love everything about it — from the city to the coaches and to the players. I knew it was the right place for me.”

I was actually picking up some items at Walgreens when Sunday called, and I glanced over at the magazine rack and saw that Salvon Ahmed was on the cover of Athlon Sports and the Huskies were picked to win the Pac-12 again this year, when I commented about this to Sunday he said “Well alright!”.

One thing that has also stood out to Sunday is how Washington uses their tailbacks, and he knows he will see the field. He will sign in December and enroll early so he’ll be ready to go in the spring of 2020.

But at the end of the day, the hero here is Keith Bhonapha, who went into Texas and dared to make an offer to a guy who could have very easily stayed closer to home; he had offers from Baylor, Houston, Temple, and Texas State — (as far as in-state schools go), “Coach KB and have a real good relationship”, Sunday said, “We have talked a lot and he’s always been straight up with me — he’s also a good coach.”

Sunday has been mentored by his head coach, Shane Anderson, who is delighted with his decision, but also his mother is very excited about her son going to Washington.

“I’ll be visiting later in the fall”, he said, “And then signing in December.”

And if anyone comes calling between now and then? “I’m 100% committed”, Sunday said, “I wanted to be done with this.”
