Stewart, McDaniels lead Washington in blowout win over San Diego

Highly touted freshmen Isaiah Stewart and Jaden McDaniels, powered Washington to an 86-69 victory over San Diego. Washington improved to 4-1 as San Diego dropped to 2-5.

Stewart led the Huskies with 25 points and seven rebounds. McDaniels shot 7-for-10 from the field and scored 20 points.

Washington finished a long week, having played three games in seven days. The Huskies beat the likes of Maine, Montana, and San Diego during the stretch.

After a slow start to the first half, Washington finished on a 12-2 run after an Isaiah Stewart put back lay up that put the Huskies up 41-30 at halftime.

Washington’s hot shooting carried on into the second half. At one point, UW made 10 field goals in-a-row to take a 72-50 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining.

Washington shot 0-for-11 from 3-point range in their last contest against Montana. Tonight, Washington came alive beyond the arc – making 7-of-17 3-pointers. Overall, Washington was great offensively as they shot 57 percent from the field and scored 46 points in the paint.

The Huskies also used their defense to create offense as they scored 24 fast break points.

Outside of Stewart and McDaniels, Nahziah Carter was another Husky to score in double-figures – finishing with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Looking ahead

Washington will have all of next week off before hosting South Dakota on Monday December 2nd.
