Stewart Continues to be Named Pac-12’s Top Freshman

SAN FRANCISCO – University of Washington freshman Isaiah Stewart continues to be the top freshman in the Pac-12 as he picked up the league’s Freshman of the Week honor for the third-straight week and fourth overall on the season.

He’s the only UW freshman to earn multiple conference weekly honors in a season since the league started naming player of the week in 1984 and he is the first Dawg to pick up four honors in a single season since Quincy Pondexter earned five during the 2009-10 season.

Stewart once again averaged a 20-10 double-double on the week going for 21.0 points and 10.5 rebounds while adding seven blocks.

The freshman, who is on the Wooden Award, Citizen Naismith Player of the Year, the Kareem Abdul-Jabaar and NABC Player of the Year watch lists, opened the week with 24 points and 11 rebounds while tying his career high with five blocks against UCLA.

He followed that with 18 points and 11 rebounds in just 26 minutes against the Trojans. Stewart has yet to score less than 14 points in a game this year and has posted double-doubles in six of his last seven games. Additionally, he has recorded four 20-10 double-doubles on the year. The nation’s leading freshman scorer is averaging 19.5 points over 15 games.

Washington heads to the Bay Area this week facing Stanford on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. on FS1 and go to Cal on Saturday, Jan. 11 to take on the bears at 5 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
