According to multiple sources and various reports, the Washington Huskies either have or will hire Utah State’s Danny Sprinkle.
Apparently the move was made prior to former UW AD has been announced as the University of Washington’s new men’s basketball coach.
This season he took over at Utah State and led the Aggies to their first tournament win since 2001.
Born in Pullman, Washington, Sprinkle grew up and was an all-state high school player in Montana. He attended Montana State for four years playing basketball. He went on to be an assistant at CSU Northridge, Montana State, and CSU Fullerton.
Sprinkle got his head coaching start in 2019 with Montana State where he turned a middle-of-the-road Big Sky team into a March Madness mainstay. In his final two seasons with the Bobcats Sprinkle led the team to their first back-to-back tourney appearances in school history. Sprinkle’s legacy has lived on as Montana St. made it three in a row this spring, even after his departure to Utah State
Arriving in Logan, Utah, Sprinkle had his hands full. Returning zero points from the previous season he was forced to build a team with tournament expectations from the ground up.
And build he did.
Utah State won 28 games in 2023/24, winning a competitive Mountain West conference outright and beating TCU in March. Sprinkle showcased his elite ability, both at bringing players in and winning basketball games, a combination of talents that Huskies fans should welcome.
Even as a proven winner, Sprinkle won’t have it much easier arriving in Seattle as the Huskies are losing most of their key pieces from the 2023/24 campaign.
