Monday morning Washington head coach Jedd Fisch released his depth chart for the Rutgers game Friday night. And there were more than just a few surpises.
Firstly, at the top was left tackle Carver Willis who went down late against Ohio State and missed the Maryland game. He’s listed ahead of Maximus McCree. Next to him, true freshman left guard John Mills is listed as “or” Paki Finau. Mills was shown in a walking boot after the Maryland game in which Finau took over when Mills went down.
The Hatchetts, center (Landen and right guard Gerean) and right tackle Drew Azzopardi remain intact. At tight end sophomore Decker DeGraaf and senior Quentin Moore share the workload and are listed in the “or” category. Both will see extensive playing time, per the usual.
No surprises amongst the next three as the dynamic trio of QB Demond Williams, RB Jonah Coleman, and WR Denzel Boston are all listed atop their respective positions.
However, the next two receiver positions show the Huskies’ dept at the position. Listed in no particular order are Omari Evans or Raiden Vines-Bright or Kevin Green.
The surprises continue at the 3rd receiver spot with true freshman Dezmen Roebuck sharing duties with Rashid Williams. The former caught 6 passes against Ohio State and Maryland, including a 34-yard strike from Williams, Jr. igniting UW’s rally from being 20 points down. The latter has been sidelined with a collarbone issue the past few games.
On the other side of the ball, senior edge Zach Durfee is also listed as an “or” with junior Isaiah Ward. Durfee was injured against Ohio State and sat out the Maryland game.
With linebacker Budda Al-Uqdah being sidelined for the remainder of the season, the linebacker position is in flex as Xe’Ree Alexander and Jacob Manu, who combined for 10 total tackles including each recording a tackle for loss, and are listed as “or”. Deven Bryant has locked down the other LB spot.
Four of the 5 defensive back spots have the usual suspects Leroy Bryant, Ephesians Prysock Alex McLaughlin, and Makel Esteen but Tacario Davis who has missed the past 4 games with a rib injury is listed as the starting corner opposite Prysock.
