The Washington Huskies bolstered their 2026 recruiting class with the tools to be another name on the list of tight ends to come out of the program. Sam Vyhlidal from Mountainside High School in Beaverton chose Washington over schools like Arizona and Arizona state.
Rated a 3-star tight end by both scouting services On3 and 247 sports, end exhibits past-catching skills to go along with his tight end frame.
Size: Standing 6-4 and weighing 225 Vyhlidal fits the bill as a big bodied receiver. His ability to block and exploit the middle of the field which pegs him in the tight end role. He is built well and will progress into an ideal frame to be able to block D-1 defenders.
Speed: While not the fastest runner on the field, Vyhlidal mixes an explosive step to free himself of defenders that have quality angles on him. He runs with a lower center of gravity that makes him tough to bring down.
Strength: There are very few tight ends that can come in and block college defenders. He has the frame to become a solid division one blocker.
ScoutLook: This is a quality pickup in the class for depth. Sam Vyhlidal is a player that has the potential to be a player you hear about in 3 years who is making plays on Montlake. He is a very good pass-catcher who is comfortable in traffic. He plays every position on offense and knows defenses well. He exploits weak points of a defense and can run through first contact. He will first see the field as a possession option in the passing game and has the potential to round out his game to become an every down tight end.
Husky Comparison: We see similarities between Vyhlidal and 4-star Jacob Kizer, who also hailed from the Beaver State, whom was on track to take a step into a bigger role before injuries got in the way.
