Under Jedd Fisch the University of Washington continues to grow its national recruiting footprint by earning the commitment of Mason James from Norman, Oklahoma. The 247 sports rated 4-star receiver chose the Huskies on Thursday over schools like Texas, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame. He becomes the 4th blue chip recruit (4-stars or better) in the 2026 recruiting class.
For Norman North High School he was a touchdown machine, scoring every 3.3 touches. He had 1,233 receiving yards on 56 receptions with 17 TDs.
Size: Standing 5-11 and weighing 180 pounds, James has the frame to play around 200-210 when he gets into college. His size gives him the option to play inside or on the outside.
Speed: This is where 4-star earns each of his stars. He is quick off the line and has elite gear. He is able to get off the line without getting tangled up with taller corners and is able to manipulate his route to gain a ton of separation.
Physicality: One doesn’t get 17 touchdowns without being physical. What’s especially surprising about James is shows a mean streak that isn’t common in receivers. He has a brutal stiff arm and initiates contact in traffic. He is a willing blocker who will be able to use that ability to give himself a chance to play early in college.
Football IQ: The picture rounds out nicely for the Oklahoma product. He’s a speed is nothing without control type of receiver as he knows when and were to create separation with his speed or contact, but also when to maintain contact for blocking purposes. He demonstrates the nuances of the route tree and how it fits into the Norman North scheme.
ScoutLook: Mason James is a high-end receiving prospect. He has the rare tools of speed and physicality that is coveted by coaches. He is comfortable with the ball in his hands in traffic and keeps the ball secure when fighting for extra yards. His running style is that of a slower athlete in the way he scraps for each yard, but also has the elite speed to leave defensive backs scrambling to catch up. He has the potential to be an all around receiver and the top option at Washington.
