Scoutlook: TI brings Hits like Clifford Joseph Harris Jr.

Scoutlook: TI brings Hits like Clifford Joseph Harris Jr.

The Washington Huskies received a commitment from big man Tufanua Ionatana Umu-Cais out of Englewood, Colorado. The Defensive line product goes by “TI” which will mercifully save my pronunciation on the podcast. The 4-star D-linemen chose Washington over Houston and Vanderbilt and is a much needed win for defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi who has missed on a few prospects over the last month.

Size: Standing 6-3 and weighing 310 pounds. TI do whatever you like on the line. He holds his weight well and looks athletic. He can play anywhere on the line at the next level, but will most likely line up in the 2 or 3 technique.

Speed: Tufanua Ionatana Umu-Cais moves very well at his size. He doesn’t explode off the line, but is patient and uses his burst after finding the running back.

Strength: As stated above, he is very patient, he doesn’t explode like a pass rusher but keeps O-linemen at arms length until he finds the gap that he needs to fill. He stays low enough that blockers can’t turn him with their hips. A runner and do whatever they like, but once he gets his hands on them its lights out.

ScoutLook: Tufanua Ionatana Umu-Cais has the potential to be a household name on a stout defensive line. He is a massive problem in the running game. He projects as a gap filler and all around disrupter in the backfield. He does not over pursue as a high school player which is big toward getting in the rotation early. What you know is guys like this are the foundation to winning a Big 10 championship. If a team can’t stop the run in the conference they have no chance. TI does this at a high level.
