Scoutlook: New Washington 3-Star Receiver Commit Brings NFL Physicality to Position

The Washington Huskies earned their second commitment of the day on Saturday with 3-star receiver Justice Williams joining 4-star Jason Robinson in the receiver class of 2024.  Williams is a rangy receiver who led Oaks Christian School in receiving yards last season–yet he is curiously unrated by several of the national scouting services.  However, he fits the mold of the receivers the Huskies have been targeting in the last two cycles.

After watching his junior season tape, it’s hard to figure out why the jury is still out on Justice some scouts.

Trevor Mueller looks at what makes this son of a Super Bowl champion tight end Roland Williams a fit for Washington’s offense:

Size: The saying goes that you can’t teach height.  Towering at 6-4, Williams has the size to dominate corners with his height and his 195-pound frame.

Speed: Justice Willams runs very well. He has long strides that eat up yards downfield. He will demand double teams with his straight-line speed down the sideline.

Footwork: The way that Williams moves one would think that he is closer to 6-0. He disguises corner routes, sticks his foot in the ground, and turns it into a slant.  His ability to stop and change direction will help mitigate the effect of bracketed coverage.

Catch Radius:  Justice Willams has a massive catch radius, but he’s smart with his body, as well.  His size allows him to get balls that would ordinarily be out of the reach of most other players.  He is smart with his body, using it like a rebounder, to shield off defenders on 50-50 balls with excellent positioning.

Physicality:  This is where having a Super Bowl-winning dad is most evident.  As expected with a player this big, Justice Williams is a better blocker than most that come out of high school because he’s not afraid to really lean on the opponent.  He is decidedly aggressive with defenders, regardless of size, gets into their chests, and drives them out of the play.  Just as he understands how to use his body as a rebounder he is savvy about blocking defenders out of plays.

Scoutlook: The size and speed of Justice Williams make him an intriguing prospect.  While rated by 247 Sports a high three-star who is on the cusp of being a 4-star, his tape shows a coveted skill sets.  Somehow those attributes are being overlooked, but not for long with his commitment to the Huskies.  With the size he already has the frame of a D1 receiver.  With that paired with the elite development at Washington, Justice Williams has the potential to be a major factor in the future.
