The Washington Huskies secured the commitment of hometown athlete Jonathan Epperson from Auburn Riverside High School.
Although his tape shows him playing running back as well as outside, inside linebacker and safety, it looks like when he comes to UW he will be an inside linebacker.
His tool belt fits that of a prospect that could lead the team in tackles when his time comes because he flies to the ball regardless of his position on the ball.
Size: Standing 6 foot even and weighing 210 pounds, the class of 2025’s number 23 athlete is the ideal size to play in the middle. His quickness and the wide frame projects well to become a high volume tackler.
Speed: He is a long strider who has an explosive first step. He uses his straight line speed well with his ability to take good angles. He showed the stop and start ability when playing running back that will be needed against shifty ball carriers.
Strength: He is a hard hitter who can sometimes be up around the shoulders of ball carriers, but his explosive movements allow for big hits to be effective.
Football IQ: Epperson is equally adept at reading angles in the open field and he is in tight spaces. He demonstrates an understanding when to explode to not only meet a ball carrier with maximum force, but also the ability to cut offensive players off before they can get to top speed.
His ability to read the run is very similar to Carson Bruener at the same time in his development.
ScoutLook: Jonathan Epperson has all the foundational pieces to become a major contributor to the Husky defense. His speed, understanding of the game, and his explosive movements make him a potential foundational piece to a top end defense.
Husky Comparison: A 6-0 Travis Feeney.
