This weekend Bishop Gorman 4-star wideout, Rome Odunze will make his official trip to Seattle, and a week later, he will sign his letter.
“I’m ready now to move on to the next chapter”, the 6-3, 205 speedster told Realdawg.com, “I’m just looking forward to getting up there.”
Odunze finished out his season with 1222 yards on 50 receptions, “And about 12 or 13 touchdowns”, he said.
Odunze was in Seattle before for an unofficial trip, but he’ll make the official trip this weekend, along with his parents and brother.
In the meantime, he’s had Junior Adams in his home twice, and finally was able to get to know new head coach, Jimmy Lake a little better when Lake and Adams came to his home Sunday evening.
“They’re all be really great”, he said of the Washington staff, “Coach Pete was great and he was real reassuring. I really like Coach Lake..he has a lot of energy and he’s real competitive. He’s got fire and I think it will be a good change.”
Odunze added that his parents liked those same qualities in Lake, “They like his approach.”
There had been some questions about when Odunze was going to sign, but he said he is signing on December 18th, “I want to do something (for signing day)”, he said, “I just don’t know what yet.”
But once he gets that letter in the next step will be to head over and watch his future team play their bowl game, ‘I’m going to the game”, he said of the December 21st Vegas Bowl.
The one person, however, who has been the real hero with reeling Odunze in is Junior Adams.
“He’s just great”, Odunze said, “He’s just ready to get this next season going.”
Odunze chose Washington over 32 other schools; big hitters such as Alabama, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Georgia, and Penn State, in addition to Pac-12 schools and many others.
And what kind of player is Washington getting?
A source we spoke to said that at 6-3, 205, Washington gets a freakish athlete with huge upside. He’s a player who can get to the 220 range and is a home-run threat every time he touches the ball.
Think of Reggie Williams with more speed.
Part of the reason Odunze isn’t enrolling early is because he has some unfinished business: To break the Bishop Gorman record for the 100 meter. Last season he missed it by two-tenths of a second and could have tied by one-tenth.
This is a huge get for Washington’s receiving corps and we fully expect to see Odunze on the field early and often once he begins his freshman season at Washington.
