Report: Jonathan Smith to become Oregon State’s next head coach

John Canzano of the Oregonian, is reporting that University of Washington offensive coordinator Jonathan Smith will be the next head coach of the Oregon State Beavers.

Rumors have linked Smith to the Oregon State for awhile. Jonathan Smith has heavy ties to the school. Smith played quarterback at OSU from 1998-2001. After that he became a graduate assistant at OSU from 2002-03 before becoming the quarterbacks coach for Idaho from 2004-2009. Smith, from 2010-2013, coached at Montana and Boise State before following Chris Petersen to Washington, becoming their offensive coordinator.

Canzano posted on Twitter that he expects an official announcement at some point today.

If the report is true it will be interesting to see if Washington goes after California’s offensive coordinator Beau Baldwin. Just a thought.
