The Kalen DeBoer era opened up with a some offensive fireworks. However, it was Washington defensive back Asa Turner who lit the fuse picking off Kent State’s Collin Schlee on the first offensive play of the game. Under the lights of Husky Stadium with a reported 56,112 in attendance, Husky fans saw something they haven’t seen in a while: a dominant offense that seemed to score at will. Here’s a look around the social networks for media and fan reactions.
We will start with some pre-game warmups coming from RealDawg.com’s Roman Tomashoff.

One of the biggest issues we saw with the Huskies was special teams, in particular kick coverage, noted here by the Seattle Times’ Mike Vorel.
UW kickoff coverage: it has not been great.

It was a late arriving crowd as many chose to watch the ending of the Mariners 4-0 victory over the Guardians. A reported 56,112 crowd is pretty good for a late night game before school starts.
For a game against a MAC team at 7:30 pm a year after going 4-8, I don't think this is too bad. https://t.co/sL3USBOUfF

Kent State’s Collin Schlee was bothered by Washington’s pass rush and overshot his receiver and Asa Turner was there to pull down the interception–his first of two.

Officially listed as a running back/wide receiver, Will Nixon finished with a team-high 11 touches, tying RB Wayne Taulapapa.

The offensive line was another highlight of the team
It's amazing how much time Penix has

Savvy, as he’s known to his teammates, is beginning to show his 5-star potential. His motor was what stood out as the Seattle-native was unrelenting. The payoff should come soon in the way of his first sack. He finished with 6 tackles.
Two straight tackles for Sav'ell Smalls

Ball handling issues were obvious
Another fumble… this one from Taulapapa, but Jalen McMillan jumped on it

A humorous look at a by-gone era.
Funny, but I actually got a chance to see the Donovan playbook from last year. I think people are being too hard on it. pic.twitter.com/qEkENLTiK1

Some Washington fans are clearly enamored with the new guy in charge.

And the game ball goes to………the head ball coach.
All in all, the Huskies had a solid start to the Kalen DeBoer era and the fans came away energized.
The first of many.
