It’s been a busy week for the Huskies’ recruiting efforts, both on the mainland and in the state of Hawai’i. Here’s some morning insider tidbits to kick off the weekend…
Of course, Sawyer Racanelli is announcing his decision on Twitter and Instagram at 11 am, and if you don’t know to find that here’s the profiles to look for:
@soysoy_11 (Twitter)
sawyer.racanelli11 (Instagram)
Now, on to other “stuff”.
It came to my attention that somewhere there’s something someone wrote about Cali OL, Jeffrey Persi and whatever it said it caused several Twitter followers to message me and ask if Washington is still in it.
I’m sure it’s written on a network and I haven’t the time or desire to go look for it, but I can assure you that Persi is still very serious about Washington and he’s considering ceasing interviews because of this kind of nonsense.
“UW is very high on my list”, he said, “I’m thinking about stopping any future interviews due to the reporters having their own agenda to fulfill. Please let them know that I’m talking with Coach Pete & Coach Huff very often and I’m very happy with how our relationships have been building”.
How’s that for a highly intelligent offensive lineman?
Persi did not tell me this, but I’m hearing from a source close to his recruitment that it’s actually going to come down to UW or USC.
Another panic button that’s been pushed is the subject of Arizona tailback, Bijan Robinson. Keith Bhonapha was at his school yesterday afternoon and, to be honest, Robinson may want to go somewhere where he’s the featured back.
We all know that Washington is taking two backs in this class, and if they miss on him, they’d likely be perfectly happy to get Sam Adams Jr. and say…Jay’Veon Sunday and call it a day. This is becoming a pretty widespread opinion at this point I’m in total agreement with others on this. Bhonapha is scheduled to be in Texas next week to check in on Sunday.
I learned of a few new names of guys that the coaches checked out while in Hawai’i this past week, mostly 2021 but a couple 2020 guys sprinkled in worth keeping an eye on such, Kamo’i Latu who’s a safety from Saint Louis — and 2021 linebacker Wynden Ho’ohuli who’s also from SLHS.
Washington is still keeping an eye on Maceal Afaese of Kapolei, who’s a 2020 defensive end, but there’s no word of any defensive tackles for 2020 coming onto the radar at this point (in terms of offers).
There’s also a couple 2020 guys in Colorado who could come more into view over the next several months; DE Elias Rolfe of Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs, and his teammate and safety, Max Lofy.
Here’s a quick review of the latest offers this past week:
AZ safety, Jacobe Covington
HI wideout, Roman Wilson
AZ 2021 LB, Trey Reynolds
And today Washington is getting an unofficial visit from 2021 linebacker, Keith Brown of Lebanon, Oregon.
