Realdawg Roundtable: Predictions and Thoughts on the Eastern Game

We’re joined today from some former Huskies, and also the Realdawg writers to talk about the upcoming game against Eastern, and what Washington has to do to get that first W.

Former Husky receiver, Reggie Williams:

“41-21…they need to do more than show up — that’s not going to help you win. They have to pin their ears back and just let it go. I would love to see Eason get it to some play makers and sling it all over the field.

“Glad to see him back on the lake where he belongs. Wish I could be there for it.”

Former Husky defensive lineman Jordan Reffett:

UW 42 EWU 17

“UW needs to come out and dominate at the line of scrimmage on the offensive and defensive lines. Front 7 need to stop the run and the Dline has to be able to get home to the QB when they only rush 4.

“Eason and the offense need to take some deep shots. Work the ball 35-45 yards down the field and establish the run. UW needs to rush for over 200 yards and get the TE’s and Chico involved in the offense early and often.”

Evan Feather, Realdawg Reporter:

“49-14 Huskies.  The Huskies match up well against the Eagles. The Eagles have an undersized D-line facing the Huskies big experienced O line. They should be able to make some big holes for Ahmed, McGrew, and Pleasant to run through. Eastern lost four senior corners from last years team, this year they have two sophomores and a freshman at the top of the depth chart.

“The experience of the Huskies’ three senior wide receivers starting versus the inexperienced Eagles corners could mean a big day for Jacob Eason. If the offense takes advantage of these mismatches they should have no problem scoring at will vs. Eastern.”

Former Husky tailback and Doak Walker Award winner, Greg Lewis:

“UW is breaking in several new starters on defense and new qb and primary running back. I think the first half will be close with new players trying to establish themselves and get a good footing for a primary role at a major program.

“It is more important that the offense begins to get a rhythm and the qb and O coordinator establish some rhythm than a quote on quote big win. I think ultimately the young DB’s make a big play or 2 in second half and we end up with a 31-17 win.”

Ruth Robbins, Publisher:

“Eastern is not coached by Beau Baldwin anymore and so it’s hard to predict what they can do against a stout Husky defense. This is a great game for Washington to find their new identity as an Eason-led offense, but I still feel they will keep things rather vanilla.

“I am positive they had some packages ready for Jake Haener and his departure might have tossed a monkey wrench into that aspect of game-planning, so it’s possible we could see our first glimpse of Jacob Sirmon in on some plays. Hard to say. Either way, I see UW putting the Eags away 37-14. And that 14 might just wind up being garbage points in the second half. I like this Husky D.”

Former Husky corner, Walter Bailey:

“I truly believe that Washington will come out with a sense of urgency on offense by taking a few shots down the seams to open up the run game. I see a 3 headed monster running back crew that should rush for 200+ yards…I see Eason throwing 4 touchdown passes..I see the new look DEATHROW Defense that will get 4 sacks at least and the Huskies win in a battle early, but pull away in the second half winning 42-14. I predict a little sloppiness on offense and defense in the first half!! Go Dawgs…Woof”
