Former Washington Husky and 1991 National Championship linebacker Hillary Butler will be back on the field at Husky Stadium, this time as RealDawg.com’s photographer.
“It’s an honor to have a real dawg join RealDawg,” said RealDawg.com CEO, Kaila Olin. “Especially one that’s a National Champion and a Super Bowl winner.”
A member of the 1991 national champion Washington Huskies and the 1998 Super Bowl-winner with the Denver Broncos, Butler brings a unique perspective to the lens, as can be seen at HillaryButlerPhotography.com
“I’ve played football at the highest level,” Butler said. “I can anticipate what will happen in plays and know where to be ready to go for the picture.”
His biggest challenge and also what he enjoys about this craft, is getting the settings right for breath-taking pictures.
“In a way, photography is a lot like football,” he said. “If you’re at the right place at the right time magic can happen.”
Butler made it a habit of being in the right place at the right time in college and the NFL, collecting championships at both levels.
Coming out of Tacoma’s Lakes High School, Butler was the next great thing in the middle of Washington’s defense. He played quality minutes in 1991, as the Huskies went 12-0 and won a National Championship.
Despite injuries derailing his career at Washington, and being undrafted in 1994, Butler played professionally from 1994-98.
In his final professional season with the Frankfurt Galaxy, Butler made it to NFL-Europe’s World Bowl losing but winning the Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos.
Although he left football, football never left him. He has coached at the high school level and has aspirations of coaching collegiality.
”I love the game of football and photography keeps me close to it,” he said.
The Husky legend will also do video for RealDawg.
”I’ve strapped it on for the Huskies and I can relate to the players,” he said of his approach to interviewing players. “It’s a hard, emotional game and I understand what the players feel either winning or losing.”
Butler’s photography of the Seattle Seahawks has been featured on the NFL Network and NFL.com.
