When Chris Petersen took over at Washington nearly 10 years ago there were absolutely no questions on whether he could coach or not. Petersen was a top-5 consensus head coach in the nation. But there were doubts he could recruit at the power-5 level. Petersen silenced those critics very soon on the recruiting trail.
Fast forward nine years later and head coach Kalen DeBoer is making a similar statement. No, DeBoer is not as established as Petersen but everywhere he’s been the team has become better. And like Petersen, people were skeptical if he could recruit at this level.
But DeBoer and staff had one of the best weeks in recruiting in a very long time at UW. In a span of six days, the Huskies secured six commitments after hosting 21 official visits. The week was highlighted by 4-stars Anthony James and Vincent Holmes committing to the purple and gold.
At the start of the week, the Huskies were outside of the top-50 in the recruiting rankings. Six days and six commits later, the Huskies sit in the top-25.
Kalen DeBoer has put together a very impressive staff. His most important hire might have been Director of Player Personnel Courtney Morgan. Morgan played a huge role this week and will continue to help the Huskies on the recruiting trail.
A lot of Husky fans before the week were getting impatient. They were tired of seeing Oregon, USC, and others getting commits over the Huskies. But this week proved the Huskies can still be a force in recruiting. And they are doing this after their worst season in 14 years. Can you imagine what this staff can do after a successful season on the field?
