Washington’s cold shooting continued in their 70-62 loss at Utah Thursday night.
In every shooting category, the Huskies could not find the bottom of the net. Washington shot 26-65 (38.5%) from the field and made just 2-18 three-point attempts. To make matters worse, UW shot 10-18 from the free throw line. In a game Washington had many opportunities to steal a win on the road, they simply could not make a basket.
Another issue for the Huskies was rebounding. In Washington’s previous loss to Stanford, the Huskies were out-rebounded by 20. Against Utah, UW was only out-rebounded by six but when the Huskies needed a defensive rebound in the end they could not get one.
The Huskies’ poor shooting was even more evident at the end of the first half. At that point UW was just 11-31 from the field and 1-13 from 3-point range. Washington did start to make some shots late in the second half and even trimmed Utah’s lead to four with under three minutes to play but failed to secure defensive rebounds in the end.
Washington was led by Jaylen Nowell’s 17 points. The true freshman also added eight rebounds. Noah Dickerson was the only other Husky in double-figures, finishing with 14 points.
Utah was led by 5-foot-8 senior Justin Bibbins, who finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists.
The Huskies fall to 13-6 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. Utah improves to 11-7 and 3-4 in conference play.
Washington next faces Colorado on Saturday at 3 p.m.
