A few weeks removed from upsetting the then No. 2 ranked Kansas Jayhawks, the Huskies did it again Friday night, upsetting the USC Trojans, 88-81, in their conference opener.
The Huskies shot a blistering 67.3% from the field and 50% from 3-point range. Maybe the most shocking stat of the night, was UW out rebounding the Trojans 26-24.
On the defensive end, Washington used a similar staretgy as they did against Kansas, extending their zone out to limit 3-point looks. In turn, USC shot just 3-20 from 3 -point range.
The Huskies were led behind Noah Dickerson’s 17 points. Dominic Green had a huge impact off the bench, making 4-5 three-point attempts and finishing with 16 points. Jaylen Nowell added 16 points as well. And rounding out the Huskies, was Matisse Thybulle’s 14 points.
Washington trailed at one point in the first half, 19-9, and it looked as if the Trojans would run away at home. But that was not the case. The Huskies closed the first half making 10 of their last 11 shots to take a 41-35 lead into the break.
As the second half continued the Huskies played better and better. Washington led by as much as 12 points in the second half and led the entire half as well.
The Huskies improved to 11-3 on the season. The Trojans dropped to 9-5.
Washington next travels to face UCLA on Sunday night at 5 p.m. The game airs on the Pac-12 Network.
