The Washington Huskies fell 79-67 to Washington State Sunday evening in Pullman. It was the Huskies sixth straight loss.

Washington falls to 12-12 on the season. The Cougars broke a four-game losing to the Huskies as they improved to 14-10 on the season.

The Huskies had no answers for WSU sophomore guard CJ Elleby. The Seattle product finished with a career high 34 points. Elleby shot 9-of-16 from the field and made six 3-pointers on the night. CJ Elleby also added 10 rebounds and three blocks to his big night.

In what has become a huge letdown of a season for the Huskies, the same issues showed up. Washington trailed 38-33 at halftime after being out-rebounded 24-15.

Every time Washington gained momentum in the second half, the Cougars answered. Despite gaining the lead less than two minutes into the second half after a 7-1 run, Washington State took control as CJ Elleby continued to make shots all night.

After a Jaden McDaniels 4-point play after getting fouled in the act of a 3-pointer, UW trailed 67-63 with 2:28 remaining. The 3-pointer ended UW’s near seven minute field goal drought. But four points were the closest UW would get as WSU held on for the win.

The Huskies were out-rebounded 44-33 in the game. Despite shooting just 38 percent from the field, WSU was able to overcome the poor shooting with nine 3-pointers. Meanwhile the Huskies shot 42 percent from the field but made just 7-of-25 from downtown. Washington also had 17 turnovers to WSU’s 14.

Washington had four players score in double-figures in the loss. Nazhiah Carter led the team with 18 points. Jaden McDaniels scored 16. Marcus Tsohonis finished with 13. And Isaiah Stewart was held in check with 11 points.
