Practice notes and video from Day No. 1 of Fall Camp

Practice notes and video from Day No. 1 of Fall Camp

The Huskies practiced under the sun and Blue Angles flying overhead for about an hour and half before Coach Petersen ended the first day of fall camp. UW practiced in helmets and shorts per usual of a first day of camp. Here are some notes, observations, pictures, and videos from day No. 1 –

* The talk all summer has been about Jacob Eason and Jake Haener. Today, they split first team reps. for the most part and there was little separation. Eason’s best throw of the day was about a 40-yard TD pass to WR David Pritchard in 7-on-7. Haener had a couple of nice completions to Ty Jones. There was very little scrimmage time and it’s way too early to start making assumptions here.

* Wide receiver Trey Lowe had two touchdown catches from QB Dylan Morris. His second TD reception was an incredible one-handed 40-yard TD over the middle that caught even his teammates by surprise.

* One of the craziest plays of the day came from true freshman WR Puka Nacua who caught a deflected pass between his legs while laying on the ground from Jacob Sirmon

* True freshman outside linebacker Laiatu Latu had a nice practice today. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound freshman out of Sacramento, California had two (would be) sacks if they were playing full contact.

* It’s too early to make a definite No. 1 depth chart but I’ll do my best from what I saw today. Note that this is day No. 1 of camp and players are constantly rotating in and out. The No. 1 offense featured QB: Jacob Eason/Jake Haener, RB: Salvon Ahmed/Sean McGrew, LT: Trey Adams LG: Luke Wattenberg C: Nick Harris, RG: Jaxson Kirkland, RT: Jared Hilbers, TE: Hunter Bryant,TE: Cade Otton, WR: Aaron Fuller, WR: Andre Baccelia

* The No. 1 defense – CB: Kyler Gordon, CB: Elijah Molden, CB: Keith Taylor, S: Cameron Williams, S: Myles Bryant (played both safety and CB), LB: Brandon Wellington, LB: Kyler Manu, OLB: Joe Tyron, OLB: Ryan Bowman, DL: Levi Onwuzurike, DL: John Clark.

* Overall, it was what you expected from a first practice. The defense got the better of the offense per usual early in camp. But the team brought plenty of energy to practice which was good to see.

* Stay tuned tomorrow for day No. 2 of fall camp
