Chris Petersen met with the media this morning and talked about things such as rules, injuries, and what to watch for when they play Cal.
Perhaps one of the biggest things Petersen said came at the very end of the presser; when asked about TE Hunter Bryant, Petersen said he could be returning soon, “We’re getting close — I’ll tell you that”, he said.
Bryant was lost prior to the season due to a leg injury that required surgery, and he missed several games last season for a similar reason after coming in (as a true freshman) and making huge impact early in the season.
Whether or not redshirt rules will be applied here is another question, and Petersen didn’t make any indication that they were planning his return around this.
Petersen also said that Myles Gaskin could be ready to return on Saturday when the Huskies travel to Berkeley to play Cal.
More Tidbits
** Petersen said that the case of fumble-itis that Chico McClatcher has had could be due to just “trying to do too much”. McClatcher has fumbled nearly every time he’s touched the ball in the past three games.
** Petersen also bemoaned the fact that the Huskies get a bye week so late in the season, “I don’t think anybody’s that fired up about a bye in week 10”, he said, but also added that he can’t do anything about it.
** Petersen was complimentary of DL, Levi Onwuzurike and the progress he’s made at establishing his presence on the field. He said that if he can play at that level consistently, he will be a real special player.
** On the rotation with the defensive backs, Petersen said “I think Jordan’s (Miller) being a tough guy and he’s practicing the whole time and all that, but it’s late in the season and he’s taken some pounding. We’ll play all those guys.”
** Petersen used coach-speak when addressing questions about how WSU did Washington a favor in taking out Oregon Saturday, “I just know that…there’s just so much football left to be played. If you start worrying about somebody else you don’t take care of your own business.”
