Oh What a Night…Notes, Quotes, and Video After the Huskies Beat Utah

There were smiles everywhere tonight following the Huskies come-from-behind victory over Utah. But none bigger than Jimmy Lake’s.

** “So proud of these guys”, the Husky head coach said on a post-game zoom call, “We said in our final team meeting that this was going to be a street fight…these guys are all about fighting”, Lake added.

** During halftime Lake said he talked to told his team that Utah had been landing left hooks, right hooks, body blows, and told them they needed to go out and starting throwing their punches, “And lay a haymaker at the end”, said.

** Cade Otton had his second 100-yard game (108, to be exact), and despite a miserable first half, Dylan Morris wound up throwing for 272 yards, “I’m just so proud of him”, Lake said, “”After half time you could just tell he was going to lead our team and put some points up”.

** Lake continued his praises of Morris, Otton, Zion Tupuala-Fetui, and of course, Elijah Molden.

** Otton, Tupula-Fetui, and Molden all talked about how surreal the night was as well.

** Molden said “It only takes one play to create a spark”, and one of those came when he intercepted Jake Bentley during a crucial drive for the Utes that stopped them dead in their tracks.

** Tupuala-Fetui said this is the biggest comeback game he’s ever been a part of and he just wants to “take in the moment”.

QUICKLY:

Bentley had six carries for 39 yards in the first half, and in the second he had minus-six yards after sacks.

This was the second-biggest comeback at Husky Stadium in history. The last time was in 1988 against Cal, the Huskies came back from a 24-point deficit to win 28-24.

Lake was ecstatic over the fourth-and-one stop the “twins” made happen. Tuli Letuligasenoa and Sam Taimani were a “wall”, Lake said, “Usually a quarterback gets at least an inch”, but the two pushed Bentley back and threw him for a loss.

The Huskies, now 3-0 and in first place in the North, found out tonight they could overcome a 21-point lead and win a football game against a good team; Utah is no slouch despite their loss to USC last weekend. Jimmy Lake said “We learned a ton tonight”.
