Mueller’s Money Line: Eastern Michigan Should Provide Little Resistance

The Washington Huskies look to stay perfect in the young 2024 season against the Eastern Michigan Eagles from the MAC.

The Eagles took care of business in week one by dispatching UMass 28-14 in week one. Transfer quarterback Cole Snyder completed 60% of his passes and ended the day with 241 yards and a touchdown.

The defense for the Eagles got after the Minutemen and tallied 6 sacks and 9 tackles for losses.

On the other side the Huskies needed about a quarter to knock off the rust of the off-season in route to a 35-3 beatdown of Weber State.

In looking into this matchup there isn’t a position group where Washington finds itself at a disadvantage and should be able to have their way with a second straight opponent.

The matchup between the Husky defense and the Eastern Michigan offense is one where Washington could have another near shut out by the end of the afternoon. Cole Snyder has been turnover prone in recent years. As the starter in Buffalo he threw 17 interceptions which will play into the secondary of Washington. Look for the corners to break out with at least one turnover on the day.

To make things worse for the Eagles is the situation on the offensive line. They were able to create enough holes for their running back combo of Delbert Mimms III and Dontae McMillan. Outside of one explosive 27 yard run by Mimms, the Eagles yards per rush drops to about 3 yards. UW should be able to take advantage of this matchup.

On the opposite side of the ball the Eagles pose more threats especially by getting after the quarterback. With six sacks in game one the Huskies offensive line will need to communicate early that led to some free rushers in game one.

Defending the run is where the Eagles will struggle. Jonah Coleman, Cam Davis, and the rest of the running back room has a chance to take over the game with explosive plays out of the backfield.

According to ESPN the Huskies are favored by 25.5 points with a point spread of 47.5 meaning the Huskies would win the game of a score about 36-11. The matchups in this game are heavily in the Huskies favor.
