It’s been a rather uneventful week so far around Montlake in terms of the Huskies’ preparation for the Cal Bears Saturday in Berkeley, but to just get you caught up, here’s some quick news items.
Will Gaskin Play?
There’s no new news regarding the status of Myles Gaskin, who missed last week with a shoulder injury — and since Chris Petersen doesn’t usually offer injury info (unless it’s season-ending or long-term), all we know is that Gaskin has practiced this week.
Does Washington need Gaskin against the Bears?
Cal allows an average of 154 rushing yards per-game, but against the Pac-12 they’ve allowed an average of 171.5 rushing yards per-game. Salvon Ahmed says he’s good to go this weekend and with the progress of Sean McGrew and Kamari Pleasant, the Huskies can still run it down Cal’s throat.
On the flip side of that, Cal is ranked first in the Pac-12 in rushing offense (196.9) and passing defense (166.4), but Washington versus the Pac-12 this season has allowed 146.6 rushing yards per-game. So if rushing is Cal’s strength, then Washington just needs to contain Cal tailback, Partick Laird.
Last season Laird went out in the game agains the Huskies and the Bears wound up only posting -40 yards on the ground.
