The Washington Huskies took care of another ranked opponent as they beat the Utah Utes 35-28 on Saturday afternoon.
The defense was terrible in the first half. Missed tackles and blown coverages led to the Utes offense exploding for 28 points going into the locker room. Coming out of the break the Huskies defense looked totally different shutting out the Utes and coming up three feet short of a pick-six that Washington linebacker Alphonso Tupuatala dropped a yard before the goal line. Washington made up for his mental error on the next play when Carson Bruner and Tuli Letuligasenoa teamed up to bring down Ja’Quinden Jackson for a safety.
Washington’s offense found their rhythm as Michael Penix bolstered his Heisman-resume as he fought the wind all afternoon. He ended the day with 332 yards, two passing touchdowns and a rushing TD that showed off his speed. Penix spread the ball out to all position groups throughout the afternoon, but three to Rome Odunze that he turned into 111 yards and two touchdowns.
There were more point left on the field by Washington, but in the end they sit at 10-0 with a real chance to win out in the regular season with a trip to Oregon State up next.
