The Washington Huskies took care of business sinking the ship of the Portland State Vikings on Saturday afternoon. In the end the Huskies were victorious to the tune of 52-6.
The defense was relentless in this matchup allowing only 130 total yards and just 50 through the air. Washington’s defensive line made adjustments, putting Vikings’ quarterback Dante Chachere on his back 4 times.
The offense continued its explosive start to the season with 617 total yards for 52 points. Michael Penix demonstrated command of the game plan, going 20-27 for 337 yards and 2 touchdowns. His only major miscue was his first interception of the season but responded on Washington’s next drive going 46 yards on 5 plays in 34 seconds for a field goal to finish the first half.
The story was the receivers yet again. Jalen McMillan was electric with 4 catches for 127 yards and a touchdown and Giles Jackson reeling in 6 for 105 yards.
Kaila Olin and Trevor Mueller are joined by UW Leah to break down everything from the afternoon. Leah took some time to talk about some comments made by Dave ‘Softy’ Mahler about fan attendance. The group discusses the nuances around preseason games and some remedies on how things can be improved.
