Washington’s defense was the pride of Husky Football.
Dick Baird has done it all in college football in the state of Washington. He was a three year letterman linebacker at Washington State and team captain in 1967. After his playing days he was a long time linebackers coach and recruiting ace at Washington.
In Baird’s 15 seasons on Montlake, the Huskies won three Pac-10 titles, two Rose Bowls and one national championship.
In his third act he was a long time member of the Husky Honks, the official pregame and postgame radio show of the Husky flagship station KJR.
Since retiring after the 2020 season Baird still is close with the team and enjoys special access granted to him by Head Coach Kalen DeBoer. He also gets to see his grandson Husky wide receiver Jackson Girouard up close.
Baird joined Trevor Mueller and Jake Grant to take a coaches look at the 2023 defense.
