Leap Day: Former Washington LB Shows Explosiveness at NFL Combine

Anybody who has followed former Washington linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio is used to the human heat-seeking missile doing what experts don’t expect.

He burst into the scene separating Oregon State kick returner from the ball his first two plays of his collegiate career—as a walk-on.

He made the leap to a scholarship player under then Husky head coach Jimmy Lake.

“If this is the highlight of my career I’ll be disappointed,” he told reporters shortly after.

He became an All-American after being the 2,629th-rated player in the 2017 recruiting class.

Before that he made the leap from playing football in Alaska to national powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada—the  current national champions.

Bishop Gorman churns out Division I football players and it’s one of the most high-profile high school teams in the country.

While it’s nearly impossible for any player to go unnoticed Ulofoshio did, picking up two low level scholarship offers.

He made the leap to Power 5, jumping on Washington giving him a shot as a preferred walk-on.

Seemingly, once again an afterthought, at the 2024 NFL Combine he put up some impressive number.

On Leap Day he had the two biggest jumps for linebackers in the broad jump and the vertical jump, finishing first in both.  He finished 6th among  linebackers with a 4.56-seconds in the 40-yards dash.

First is just what he does.  It’s a habit that started with him arriving at Washington’s training facility before anyone else.

Although, his Washington Huskies finished second in the country this past season.

But one thing for certain, after his impressive performance at the Combine, the first words out of his mouth were probably, “if this is the highlight of my career I’ll be disappointed.”
