His name is familiar to Husky fans, and his mark is ready to be made on the local recruiting scene heading into 2023.
Ferndale offensive lineman, Landen Hatchett is more than just the younger brother of current Husky, Geirean. He’s a legit prospect on a national level.
Definitely deserving of a 4th star, Landen holds 11 offers right now, and will surely become one of the top prospects in the state in the months ahead.
“I plan to narrow it down in late spring or early summer”, the 6-2 1/2, 295 lb. offensive guard/center told Realdawg.com over the weekend, “Washington, definitely. I want to take an official visit because they’re one of my top schools.”
Hatchett has already established an excellent relationship with Scott Huff, having recruited his older brother, “I’ve known him for five years now”, Hatchett said.
In the past year, Hatchett has visited (unofficially) Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, USC, Michigan, and Miami, and last weekend he was back on the UW campus for Junior Day.
“I talked with Coach DeBoer”, he said, “We sat down and talked for about 45 minutes. I know he has that place going in the right direction.”
And this is good news for Washington, because Hatchett isn’t going to go the distance in the process; he plans to make a decision by summer, “Or before the season”, he said.
The Huskies like him at center, and Hatchett has all the intangibles to make an impact on the line at the next level; he has a low center of gravity and his instincts are sound. He’s quite flexible and shows good balance — but also has the nasty streak you want to see in a D1 guard.
Right now he’s just working out, lifting, and training until baseball season starts, where he plays first base for Ferndale.
“Geirean isn’t telling me what I should do, but let’s just say he would like it if I went to Washington”, Hatchett laughed, “But he wants me to make my own decision.”
The two are very close, and there’s even another Hatchett coming up (but we’ll talk about that later).
This spring Hatchett wants to attend the PLU combine and also will be attending the Dirt Dawg camp at Washington.
