Kalen DeBoer looked like he’d been the head coach of the Huskies all of his life as he took to the mic today to discuss his first recruiting class at Washington. It was a small class, not counting the two transfer portal commits of Mike Penix and Jordan Perryman, but it’s not done either.
There will be more to come after this early signing period, and DeBoer did discuss this further. But first, he talked about each individual signee from today. Here’s some quotes and notes, and the full video will follow.
Germie Bernard
“Very dynamic, really special…energy because he’s so comfortable and familiar with this program already…just real exciting…everything he does it’s just impressive. He’s a durable player. He’s got a maturity about him.”
Denzel Boston
“He really just wanted to stay local, when I saw the film I wanted him to stay local too. (His) catch radius is enormous, I’m fired up about him. He’s going to put on some good solid wait…that will make him quicker and twitchier. He loves football, He’s going to be a good compliment …he and Germie complicated eachother”
Parker Braislford
(Comes from) a great, top tier program. Dynamic personality…really smart, you can see it in the way he plays, he’s athletic. Plays too the whistle and through the whistle. Twitchy, explosive, runs well, athletic, good body control.”
Lance Hotlzclaw
“He’s a team player, explosive guy, edge guy, defensive end, outside linebacker-type player, personality is fun and easy going — but there’s also intensity about him — he knows what it takes to get what he wants.”
Ryan Otton
“You’re going to see him make a name for himself”.
Additionally:
** He said this was going to be a small class, but they’re in a “good place” heading into January and February.
** The class will likely be at around 15 total spots, and DeBoer noted that they may not all be high school prospects either.
** DeBoer also said that new staff hires will be announced over the “next couple of days”.
** the coach did say he anticipates more attrition.
