Julius “Juice” Brown has joined the Washington football coaching staff as cornerbacks coach, new head coach Kalen DeBoer announced today.
Brown joins the UW staff after having worked the last two years at Fresno State under DeBoer, as recruiting coordinator, while coaching the “Husky” (a hybrid linebacker/safety) position for the Bulldogs.
“I am excited to welcome Julius, his wife Cassidy, and their family to our program,” said DeBoer. “Having worked with Coach ‘Juice’ the past two years, it’s clear that his impact in our program will be widespread. His ability to connect and build strong relationships with prospects and current team members is proven and critical to building and developing a strong position group, defense and team.”
“My family and I are blessed and excited to be here,” said Brown. “I want to thank Coach DeBoer and Jen Cohen for the opportunity to lead these young men at such a historic university. It’s truly a five-star program. You have elite facilities; you get to recruit elite players. You have a vibrant city, with a passionate fan base, and lastly you have the Greatest Setting in College Football. Go Dawgs!”
A defensive back at Boise State from 2000-2003, Brown began his career at his alma mater, in a variety of roles from 2006 through 2011. After a year each coaching at Troy and Arkansas State, he returned to Boise State as defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator in 2014 and 2015. From there he worked for three seasons (2016-18) at Utah State and one (2019) at Texas Tech before joining DeBoer’s first staff at Fresno State prior to the 2020 season.
In 2021, Fresno State’s defense ranked among the top three in the Mountain West Conference in total defense, rushing defense, pass efficiency defense, first downs allowed and third-down conversion defense.
In 2020, 247Sports.com named him the No. 2 recruiter in the Mountain West Conference, for his work compiling the Bulldog’s 2021 class of newcomers.
