Irvin Says “I Believe in Coach Petersen”, Irvin talks about Decision

Julius Irvin took some time to talk to Realdawg.com today after he announced he was going to be a Husky.

“It’s been a long process”, Irvin said, “If I had decided back in December I would have probably made the wrong decision — so it’s good that I had more time to really think things over.”

His decision was delayed because his mother, Joyce, suffered a brain aneurysm and the ordeal was devastating in the Irvin household. Fortunately, her recovery has come along well and she is working hard in physical therapy to regain strength.

“It’s funny how it all worked out — maybe there’s a reason for everything”, Irvin said.

So, the decision to choose Washington had been long overdue, Irvin said, “It was just the consistency in the program — when I went up there for my visit I knew. There was constant love from the coaches, and I fell in love with the locker room. I fit in with all the guys and we made friends instantly. And Kyler (Gordon) and I had gotten real close.”

He’s also good friends with current Huskies, Terrell Bynum and former Servite teammate, Keith Taylor.

“When I called (Coach Pete) he was just getting off a plane, and he said he wanted to scream but he couldn’t because everyone was around and he was still on the plane”, Irvin laughed, “And Coach Lake was so happy.”

Irvin said that he believes in Coach Petersen, “More than any other coach who recruited me”, and he also said he believes in the UW program.

“At Alabama, they already created something”, he explained, “One of the reasons I chose UW is because I know we can make that happen at UW. I want to help the program, I believe in that program.”

Irvin chose the Huskies over Alabama, Penn State, USC, and Notre Dame — to name a few.

A 4-star prospect, he is definitely elite, and just a tough, tough competitor who will see the field early. He’s the best (per our sources) safety prospect on the West Coast — and he’s so gifted and natural he can play corner — whatever position, he will be a star.

With Irvin’s commitment, Washington is close to finishing out the 2018 class.
