It is the path of least resistance.
We saw it with the playoff and now with the Heisman.
Friday night the Heisman voters chose Jayden Daniels as the winner of the most prestigious awards in sports. In choosing Daniels who will be playing in the in the ReliaQuest Bowl stacked up massive stats as he led a team that lost 3 of their 4 toughest games in the 2023 season.
While Daniels padded his stats against eight mid-to-low level programs including a massive late season matchup with Georgia State, Michael Penix defeated every school and Mother Nature in November as he battled strong winds in week 10 and a torrential downpour in week 11.
Michael Penix led a Washington team that ended seasons of someone of the most marquee programs in the nation, not to mention some of the darlings of the national media.
First, he led a team that scored 52 on USC ending their hopes at a conference championship and the Heisman campaign for Caleb Williams. They also ended any chance Oregon and Bo Nix had at the playoff and the Heisman.
Long story short Michael Penix is the best quarterback at one of the best teams in the country. Daniels beat a good Missouri and the dregs of the SEC and lower teams.
Congratulations to Jayden Daniels, but the game is played on the field, not on paper. The Heisman is more than stats. Penix had the moments and the wins.
See you in the final four, Husky fans.
