Instant Reaction: Washington Lands Freakishly Fast First 2025 Recruit

It appears that the University of Washington’s recruiting has woken up from its 2021 slumber, landing speedy receiver LaMason Waller III from Hesperia, California.  As an 8th grader, the new UW commit ran a 4.4 forty-yard dash and 10.92 one hundred meters–13 years old.

So when we’re talking about jumping the gun on committing to the Huskies, rewind the tape, he didn’t have a false start, he’s just freakishly fast.

In the span of 7 days Washington’s coach Kalen DeBoer has hit the “Woof” button on his keyboard four times.  Since May 16th the Huskies have received pledges from:

While the new Washington commit is the third LaMason Waller in his family, he is the first 2025 commit for the Huskies.  He still a freshman at Sultana High School is northeast of Los Angeles in Hesperia, California.  Historically, the Huskies have had a ton of difference-makers from LA-area schools, Waller appears to be the first one from his school.

In securing Waller’s commitment the Huskies can now turn their attention to landing his quarterback.  First on that list may be an hour down the road, Murrieta Valley’s Bear Bachmeier who the Huskies were recently checking out.

But how odd does it feel to be looking down the 2025 pipe before 2024?  DeBoer has sent out 15 offers already for Waller’s class with over 50 for 2024 already.

While in Indiana as the Hoosiers’ offensive coordinator, he let the administration know that he was not looking to be a coordinator for very long.  Seeing how aggressive DeBoer has been in recruiting already it’s clear that he’s had this plan all along.

Waller is a 6-2, 170-pound freshman he’s simply listed in scouting services as an athlete.  However, given that receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard acknowledged the commitment with a tweet of his own, it’s expected that he is being recruited as a receiver.

The offer by DeBoer was extended earlier this year on March the 12th.  Oregon quickly followed suit.  Waller visited Georgia, Georgia Tech, Oregon, USC, but ultimately chose Washington.

Of course, it’s early, but this commitment is as much about the player as the vision of the Washington recruiting for years to come.
