Instant Reaction: Huskies Escape In Most Chaotic Finish of the Year

Instant Reaction: Huskies Escape In Most Chaotic Finish of the Year

What did we just watch? An instant reaction is tough when I’m still trying to comprehend what just happened. So much to break down, highs, lows, and everything in-between.

The biggest thing that stood out is Michael Penix. The injury rumors had been swirling around for a while and Penix put them to bed tonight. A master class performance saw Penix throw for 430 yards and a pair of scores. Penix was hitting every throw and squeezing the ball into windows that seemed non-existent. Rome Odunze continued to show out and looked absolutely dominant. Odunze led all receivers with 126 yards. Ja’Lynn Polk had a huge game and the biggest play of the game on his 77 yard catch and run. Penix was hitting everybody all over the field.  While Penix and the receivers were firing on all cylinders, Dillon Johnson’s battle with injuries slowed him down. Johnson had 21 carries and had just 49 yards and most notably got injured giving Texas around 30 seconds of extra time.

On the other side of the football, the Huskies flashed brilliance. Bralen Trice was the player of the game with his two sacks, forced fumble, and countless pressures. Even while Trice thrived the Huskies struggled with stopping the run, and that kept Texas in for the majority of the game. The Longhorns thrived with 180 yards on the ground. Quinn Ewers and the passing attack woke up late, and diced up a secondary that had controlled the game. The UW DB’s looked great in the first half, having one of their better games, but the second half was almost enough to cost it. Thankfully they made the plays in the final seconds and got away with the win.

Grady Gross deserves a huge shout out for his performance, going 3/3 on field goals, and 4/4 on extra points. Gross had 13 points leading all players in the game.

RealDawg will have expanded reactions to the Huskies victory in the next days.
