Instant Reaction: Did the Huskies Reel In Joe Tryon’s Twin, with Jacob Lane?

After reeling in four Californians, the Huskies have begun their work in the state of Washington ahead of a big recruiting weekend, reeling in local Emerald Ridge Edge Defender Jacob Lane.  He hails from the same high school as newly-enrolled receiver Denzel Boston.

The commitment comes on a spring when he could do no wrong, seeing his star rise dramatically over this off-season.

“He’s strung together impressive performances at the ESPN 300 Elite Underclassmen Combine in Oakland in May,” said RealDawg.com’s Kyle Waltos.

Inevitably Lane is going to conjure up comparisons to former Husky edge rusher Joe Tryon, with his size and speed.

Tryon was a first-round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021 and went to Hazen High School, an hour north of Emerald Ridge.

The comparisons are eerily similar.

As high school seniors: 6-5, 230-pound pass-rushers.  At this point, Lane has been rated of .8585 by 247SPORTS COMPOSITE® 3 stars while Tryon was given 3 stars and a rating of .8525.

At Emerald Ridge last season, Lane registered 47 tackles including 15 tackles for a loss that included 6.5 sacks.  Tracy Ford of Ford Sports Performance in Bellevue reports that Lane has a 4.71 laser-verified speed, 37-inch Vert, and 10-2 broad jump.

After winning this past weekend’s 7-on-7 passing tournament in Husky Stadium his team was presented the trophy, and Lane capped off the weekend when he committed to Washington on Sunday in front of his teammates.  The team award for the Jaguars was stacked on top of winning Lane winning MVP honors at the National Preps Championship Invitational Showcase in Washington, ESPN 300 Elite Underclassmen Combine in Oakland, and Space Needle Showdown 5on5 tournament where he went 14-2 in one on one battles.

“Just as his star was starting to rise he pulled the trigger for Washington,” Waltos said.  “He’d recently picked up Power 5 offers from Arizona, Cal, and Utah–taking an official visit to Arizona a week ago.”

Lane had also visited Pullman, Corvallis, and Berkley in recent weeks, but apparently, he’d seen enough to know that he was going to remain loyal to the soil.
