The recruiting class finished 38th in the 247Sports ranking. Flipping 4-star Budda Baker from Oregon was, at the time thought to be the biggest move of the class but landing 4-star Kaleb McGary, who heavily considered Wisconsin at the time, ended up being a first-round draft pick. K.J. Carta-Samuels was a 4-star QB, giving Petersen three four-star players. On paper, it wasn’t all that impressive of a class at the time, finishing 7th in the conference. The average player rating was 84.34–a lower level 3-star average.
The 2014 recruiting class had 7 NFL players hidden amongst the 3-stars:
- Will Dissley
- Tristan Vizcaino
- Sidney Jones
- Dante Pettis
- JoJo McIntosh
- Greg Gaines
- Shane Bowman
Looking at Washington’s current recruiting class is rated 2nd in the conference with three 4-star players in DE Anthony James, WR Rashid Williams, and DB Vincent Holmes. The remaining commits are all rated 3-stars but a higher player rating than Petersen’s first class at 87.00.
According to RealDawg.com’s lead scout Trevor Mueller, DeBoer has a few undervalued commits that he sees their stock rising this coming season.
- 3-star DB Jordan Whitney
- 3-star OL Zachary Henning
- 3-star DB Diesen Gordon
Adding 3-star in-state OL Landen Hatchett who the Huskies beat out USC, Michigan, Oregon, and Texas A&M. Many others project to be multi-year contributors like OT Elishah Jackett, Edge Defender Jacob Lane and Sua Lefotu.
In all this appears to be a strong recruiting class with many more who will make the head ball coach “Woof” in the coming days. But also the way that the Director of Player Personnel Courtney Morgan and Kalen DeBoer are the architects of this class and their relentless efforts should pay off further down the line when pens are put to paper for this class in December.
