The Washington Huskies have shored up the special teams units by adding a punter and a kicker from within the Big 10 Conference. Luke Dunne, an Australian-born punter, who punted 9 times at Oregon last season, announced his commitment. Then came Washington-born kicker Ethan Moczulski who is transferring from Illinois.
Dunne was Oregon’s backup kicker in 2024, demonstrated directional kicking, dropping 5 of 9 kicks inside the opponent’s 20 yard line, including two in the loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoffs. He also showed a big leg with a 51-yard boot against Illinois.
In fact, the game between Oregon and Illinois featured two future Washington special teamers as the Huskies added Fighting Illini kicker Moczulski. Although the UI kicker didn’t kick any field goals or extra points in that game, he was the team’s kickoff specialist.
Against the Ducks the Illini scored just once giving the future Husky just 2 kickoff opportunities with no returns–one into the end zone and one out of bounds putting the ball an the UO 35.
On the season he kicked off 70 times with 38 touchbacks and 5 out of bounds.
However, Moczulski, who prepped at Spokane, entered the Illinois record book with a 59-yard field goal that had room to spare. On the season he was called on just twice for kicks, both for over 50 yards.
With Moczulski, the Huskies have its kicker for the next 2-3 season but are also signing 2026 big-legged kicker CJ Wallace. Over Easter break the St. John Bosco specialist showed off his own big leg in a workout with a 65-yard field goal while bouncing a couple of kickoffs off of the goalposts. One kick was part of the way up the upright and the other off of the crossbar.
Moczulski was an All-American at Mt. Spokane High School in Eastern Washington, signing with Texas A&M for the class of 2022. He transferred to the University of Illinois for 2024 before returning home to the Evergreen State.
Dunne on the other hand, entered the Transfer Portal, only to stay in the Pacific Northwest, going 286 miles north of Autzen Stadium to Husky Stadium.
Both kickers have big legs in positions of need and are important additions heading into the summer.
